Ranking Maker
Paste a list (or tap a quick start), answer “this or that”, and a smart sort builds your full ranking. Send it to a tier list in one tap.
Why head-to-head works
Ranking twenty things at once overloads short-term memory, so people anchor on the first few and guess the rest. Comparing just two at a time is easy, and consistent: you never have to hold the whole list in your head.
The ranker uses binary insertion: each new item is compared with the middle of the list so far, then the middle of the half it belongs in, and so on. That is why 20 items take about 49 picks, not the 190 needed to compare every pair. See the numbers in our guide to making a tier list.
Questions people ask
How does the ranking maker work?
It asks you to choose between two items at a time and inserts each new item into your ranking with a binary search. You only answer the comparisons that actually matter, roughly log₂(n!) in total, which is near the theoretical minimum for a full ranking.
How many questions will I get?
About 21 for 10 items, 49 for 20 and 131 for 40. The counter shows how many are left. If you are short on time, a tier list asks for just one decision per item.
Can I turn my ranking into a tier list?
Yes. Press “Send to tier list” and your order is split into S to F rows in the maker, top picks in S. Move anything that feels off and share it.
